The 5500’s standard 6.4-liter Hemi V8 has been extensively revamped to be lighter and more fuel efficient. Paired with the 6-speed automatic transmission, the Hemi V8 produces 370 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 429 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,000 rpm. This option packs a good punch, but most drivers will opt for the 8-speed automatic transmission for a boost in horsepower. Connected to that 8-speed automatic, the Hemi delivers up to 410 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 429 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,000 rpm.  

The optional all-new 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel is also lighter, more fuel efficient and more powerful than its 2018-model equivalent. Paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, the engine hammers out 360 horsepower at 2,800 rpm and 800 lb.-ft. of torque at 1,800 rpm – a 35-horsepower, 50-lb.-ft. boost from last year’s engine. 

This means big things for the 5500’s capability ratings. With the 6.4L HEMI V8, the model scores a best-in-class maximum gas GCWR of 28,500 lbs. and best-in-class gas engine max trailering at 21,460 lbs. With the 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel, you’ll find best-in-class max. trailering at 35,220 lbs. along with a best-in-class max. GCWR up to 43,000 lbs.
